Signs of the Times 05/13/2011
For several years I've told friends, and those close to me or who've asked to begin prepping for coming changes. On my radio show I've talked about the need to have food storage, water and a garden. 11 years ago I left San Diego and moved to Colorado. I bought a small 2 1/2 acre lot with a small bedroom mobile home on it. Back then business was still booming and as such I built a large house for my expanding family. So many of the moves I make are motivated by what God puts on my heart and his Spirit speaks to me through dreams or visions. 5 years prior to moving here I was told I would end up in Colorado and I laughed at Spirit voicing my disdain for the cold. Funny how the Universe guides your path even when you are stubborn. I wrote about my journey here in my book so I will not go on here. A few years ago it was really clear from Spirit we needed a way to grow food year round. While I've gotten good at growing summer veggies it wasn't enough to make it through winter. My Dad (who moved in 8 years ago) listens to what I tell him Spirit tells me. So after long consideration we put in a Growing Dome. The economy was semi strong and it was right before the Housing crash. 3 years later he is glad we did it. Last year I was told to get Chickens to insure we had eggs and protein. We did. Then a few weeks ago I was told we needed goats to make butter and cheese. What? Goats? I know nothing about keeping goats. I know nothing about making butter or cheese. I went online and started researching. I'm not a milk drinker, although I cook with milk and butter, I don't like store bought milk. I do however love cheese and butter on toast is a must. They also reminded me how much I love Ranch Dressing on my salad and veggies. Inspiration was born and I decided to find some milk goats. Dad was not happy, that is an understatement. He pressed me to promise no more animals after this. Haha! I promised. The project began, find fencing materials, pick an area to house them and build a milking stand. Today we finish all of it and tomorrow I pick up 2 of my 3 goats. After watching gas prices surge, food prices soar and money dwindle, I am glad we are getting more self sustaining. I was also told we needed to dig a pond on the back of the property for emergency water needs. That will be done next month. Yesterday Dad went to pick up some bulk food items at Sams Club. He told me how many people were stocking up on food there. I was shocked to see Sams now selling a 1 year supply of food storage on their website. Sams Club executives see what's coming and they are fully prepared to profit from the needs of the consumer. Other survival sites sell the same thing for less. I'm noting this so the reader understands, the signs are there if you are willing to see it. I never thought I'd leave California and trade my life there in for a quiet life in the middle of no where. I am glad I listened to the nudging of Spirit and moved. I am grateful I have been guided to prepare for the rising cost of food, fuel and necessities. More importantly, I am glad I am at total peace and amazed at the miracle God has afforded me and my family. We will be eating organic, homegrown food and will thrive long after the price of food has exceeded our ability to purchase it. It's almost there already. This year I have no need to buy produce or eggs. We only buy bread, meat and non-food items when we shop now. The prices have doubled since last year. A 1 lb. block of cheese is now over $8. That same block of cheese 2 years ago was $5. Orange Juice is over $6 a Gallon and bread over $3 a loaf. Produce is so high it's no wonder people don't eat healthier. For $2.89 I can plant enough lettuce to last 3 seasons. It even reseeds itself in some cases. For the same price I can grow enough Spinach for my family for 2 years. Not to mention I don't have to drive the 40 miles to the grocery store, burning fuel at $4 a Gallon. The economy is going to be rough for many. If you've read my posts before, heard my radio show or know me, I've warned of these times for years. The times have come to feed yourself. You have a couple of months to get supplies built up, don't wait! By the end of summer, food prices will be very high and you won't be able to purchase the same things you did before without paying overly inflated prices. Get the stuff now. Any products that are Wheat based, noodles, bread, cereal, grains are going to skyrocket. Crops were damaged with the recent natural disasters and if you watch the Wheat commodities markets, the price is much like gas. Stock up! Homesteading or Self Sufficient/Sustainable living is taking off. Even if you have a small yard or balcony with sun you can grow some of your own food. You can store up canned goods and noodles in your house. Don't wait, with so many people facing the same situation, there won't be anyone to turn to when the SHTF. This is an amazing, miraculous and exciting time. Prophecy and predictions are coming to pass. God is present in all of this. Listen to His voice, Spirit and guidance and all will be well!
